Blue Sky Filly Wins on Debut…

Blue Sky Thoroughbreds flagbearer She’s Meaner is primed to return at Warwick Farm this Saturday in the Group Two AJC Silver Shadow Stakes, but the Blue Sky colours didn’t have to wait until then for a win, carried to victory at Kilmore on Tuesday by blue-blooded first starter Miss Zapper.

A $300,000 purchase for Blue Sky from the Kitchwin Hills draft at the 2007 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale, Miss Zapper is the latest in a string of well bred maiden winners from the powerful Lee Freedman stable which is bursting at the seams with talented three year-olds.

A striking bay with a bold white blaze, Miss Zapper settled back in the field and charged home late to score a narrow but decisive win in the 1200 metre maiden and has been entered in the Group One MRC Thousand Guineas.

A daughter of in-form stallion Red Ransom (USA), Miss Zapper is the first foal of the Rory’s Jester mare Volted In, a half-sister to Group One winners Anamato and Drum, also Group One placed Tambour, the dam of champion racehorse Grand Armee.

Renowned judge Steve Brem paid $600,000 for a Redoute’s Choice filly from Volted In at the Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale earlier this year and Volted In herself was sold at the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale fetching $920,000 to the bid of Patinack Farm with a positive test to Rock of Gibraltar (IRE).
