Racing Fund’s Ocean Journey bolts in at Bendigo

Ocean Journey blitzed the field by 4 lengths at Bendigo on Friday in the J.M. Leech Jewellers SV 2YO C & G Maiden Plate. A $130,000 purchase by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds at the 2007 Magic Millions Premier Sale, Ocean Journey notched up his first win from 5 starts after previously running 2nd and 3rd this time in.

“Its great to see the horse finally showing us what he has promised all along”, said Blue Sky Managing Director Julian Blaxland.

“In the Spring the Freedmans had a big opinion of this horse, accepting in the Debutant Stakes in Melbourne only to have to scratch the horse on race day morning due to a throat infection. Cory Brown actually chose him over Sugar Babe for the ride, so we knew once the horse got back to normal he had a performance like this in him, it was just a matter of when he would put his hand up and again and be counted”.

The Lee Freedman trained gelding, having his fifth start, revelled on the slow track running 1000m in the time of 58.08, more than 1.2 seconds quicker than both of the previous fillies divisions.

“Its great for the Racing Fund to get a win on the board after so much early promise and hopefully its onward and upward for Ocean Journey over sprinting distances, I would say a start in town is imminent after accounting for the field by 4 lengths eased up” commented Blaxland.
