Blue Sky Secure Quality Mares at Millions National Sale…
Blue Sky Thoroughbreds were active at this week's Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale securing 8 fillies and mares for clients from NSW, QLD and Western Australia.
In a patchy sale, company Director Julian Blaxland inspected the entire 590 lots offered and as always was looking for value for fillies off the track and young mares in foal to commercial stallions and tax mare options.
"The market was very strong for quality commercial stock, with many interstate and international buyers coming in for the sale. I think we ended up doing quite well with the mares we purchased, buying them at or below value, fillies such as Superfly (Winner of the AJC Widden Stakes) I thought was cheap at $325,000, as she will go for a break now and come back to race again in the late spring and autumn so there is plenty of upside there. We bought her yearling half sister at the MM Yearling Sales for $625,000 by Encosta De Lago that David Hayes will train, so there is plenty happening in the family. Zabeel mare Tiffany Ruby at $285,000 in foal to More Than Ready was cheap I think being out of Group 1 winner Ruby Clipper and a half sister to Seventh Rock, the best 3yo in South Africa."
Blue Sky as always was active at all budgets purchasing lot 1023 Moncreiff for $16,000, a daughter of Gr 3 winner Dottoressa and a half sister to the Redoute's Choice yearling colt bought by Blue Sky this year for $460,000 at the MM yearling sale.

"We took a punt on the half brother we bought thats with John O'Shea, if he turns out to have ability, she is a very cheap filly indeed." said Blaxland.
Down on last year the MM sale was up and down over the three select days, with value found on select lots.
"We have had to work pretty hard to find the nice ones at the right price, but if you do the work you are rewarded and our clients are very happy with what we have picked up" said Blue Sky General Manager David Joice.
The Blue Sky team now heads to Sydney at the end of the month for the Inglis Weanling, Fillies and Mares Sale at Newmarket. |
