INSTINCTION – Purchased by Blue Sky Thoroughbreds at Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale 2010.
A $300,000 Inglis Premier purchase from the Three Bridges Thoroughbreds draft, royally bred Exceed and Excel colt Instinction proved his class with a tenacious victory in the Listed VRC Hilton Hotels Stakes over 1400 metres at Flemington on Saturday.
Prepared by Mick Price, the eye-catching grey faced a sharp jump in class in coming off a maiden win at Kyneton to stakes company on a carnival day, but he handled the challenge in his stride.
Taking full advantage of barrier one, Craig Newitt was able to give Instinction a good run in transit and when asked for an effort in the straight, Instinction found the line gamely to win by a short head in a tight finish with stakes-winning More Than Ready (USA) colt Mahisara.
"We were hoping he could finish in the first four today and then go to the Sandown Guineas next week and to win is a bonus," said Price.
Instinction runs in the Blue Sky Thoroughbreds colours and has won two races from six starts earning $106,275 in prizemoney.
Among the top sellers at the 2010 Inglis Premier Yearling Sale, he is the first foal from Group II winning Encosta de Lago mare De Lago Mist, a daughter of stakes-winner In The Mist from the family of Group I VRC Newmarket Handicap winner Wanted.
De Lago Mist has a yearling colt by champion sire Redoute's Choice and delivered a filly by the same sire this spring.
Continuing the great run of success being enjoyed by Darley's Exceed and Excel, Instinction is his 43rd stakes-winner and is his fourth this season joining Helmet, Kulgrinda and Applegate. |
