Blue Sky Thoroughbreds continued their spending spree on yearlings around Australia at yesterday’s opening session of the Inglis Melbourne Premier Sale.
The new force in Australian racing and breeding purchased the top priced lot – a colt by Exceed and Excel and the first foal of multiple stakes winning Encosta De Lago mare De Lago Mist. Sold by Victoria’s Three Bridges Thoroughbreds on behalf of Peter Katelanis, the grey colt was knocked
down for $300,000.
Blue Sky Thoroughbreds began operation just four years ago and has now become one of the country’s most influential domestic buyers. Since the 2010 round of yearling sales began they have so far bought 18 horses.
Blue Sky has enjoyed tremendous success on the racetrack in recent months with horses such as Blue Diamond Stakes placegetter Beneteau and stakes winner Shrapnel. Julian Blaxland was rapt to secure the colt that will be prepared by Caulfield trainer Mick Price.
“He is a lovely colt. He’s out of a mare that was a super racehorse. He has a big pedigree and is from the same family as Shrapnel,” Blaxland said.
Blue Sky’s greatest advertisement on the racetrack, Beneteau, has recovered well from his run in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes and is now back in the Sydney stable of his trainer Paul Messara. The colt is now being set for the world’s richest two-year old race, the Golden Slipper Stakes. |
